Children - Civil Victims of the War

Artillcry bomb-shells did not choose their targets. Silence made the distance beetwen the firing and falling of the grenades, full of expectations, plays of the nerves and fate mercilessly taking new names to improvable eternity. There was no time for fear, because a man is afraid of unknown, and whatever was happening to our town throughout these 4 years, was the well known story of struggle beetwen good and evil. Thousands of hours that people of Karlovac spent under te general alarm and thousands of grenades which wrote a sad story of a war ruined town, took mercilessly its victims. The cruel figure statistics does not reveal human destinies hiding behind diagrams and tables and each name is a special and unrepeatable story, original in its duration, experience and point of view. As a rule, the war usually ends in history books full of such information, people show little interest for nuances, because life is, as they try to teach us, going continuously further.

If we forget their names today, tomorrow they will not even remember ours. Life, extinguished in oblivion, questions its own existence. We, the Rotarians of Karlovac, do not want to forget. It is not to take revenge, but to avoid, by experience and memory, mistakes possible in future and to relieve pain of those in need.

In this war, children were the category of people who suffered mostly. They lost their fathers, mothers, older brothers or sisters. In front of their eyes, their houses were burnt and the whole life full of family love and harmony fell apart. In good faith and with a wish to help them on their enduring way to become grown-ups, we decided to help direct sufferers of this war. Their destinies are the picture of the times we cannot amend but we can and we must joint to its mistakes and try to sooth them. Zeljko Bezjak, Hrvoje Bicanic, Ivica Boljar, Kristijan Boljar, Zoran Dasic, Snjezana Ivkovic, Zarko Latkovic, Davor Mestrovic, Mirela Miksic, Andreas Perak, Milan Puskaric, Marino Rade, Krunoslav Sabljaric, Irena Salopek, Stephanie Sabic, Ivica Tuskan i Miroslav Vidos are only the small part of a long list which does not allow us to wave our hands away. We have the strong feeling of responsibility towards them, thus wanting to show them that there are such people who do not want to relive past just by using history books.
